WeirdGirlMarie

From a young age, the artist by the name Weirdgirlmarie has always been into music. From musical theater to writing singles that won’t see the light of day, to going to college for arts management and jazz, this artist has always been ready to pursue her dreams.

Weirdgirlmaries’ artist name has an interesting backstory as you’d imagine, with the idea deriving from the story of Cinderella. In the original story of “Cinderella” by Charles Perrault, Cinderella’s original name was Ella, but after she falls asleep next to cinders and gets covered in soot, her stepsisters laugh at her and nickname her Cinderella. Weirdgirlmarie is open about the fact that she was bullied growing up in school.

“They just called me the weird girl who had the headphones on and was listening to music on her computer, not fu**ing with other people,” Weirdgirlmarie said. Since then, she has owned the title of “weird” so much that she made it her brand.

Weirdgirlmarie doesn’t focus on just one genre of music as most artists do. She likes to expand her horizons and won’t put herself in a box. “Why suscept yourself to one genre and be stuck to that and your discography is the same shit, I hate that,” she said.

After going to school for music, Weirdgirlmarie was able to learn how to incorporate jazz into many of her songs, as well as modern jazz and underground artistry. With multiple singles and an album already released, Weirdgirlmarie is changing the game with her sound.

This One’s For The Girls

Weirdgirlmarie’s album, “This One’s For The Girls,” was released in October of 2023. “It’s for the girls and the gays,” Weirdgirlmarie said. “I write about real shit, I write about everything I’ve ever experienced.” She describes her album as “for the girls with generational curses, trauma, heartbreak, and bullshit friends.”

Weirdgirlmarie’s album is filled with songs she feels are very personal to her, and songs that detail traumatic experiences in her life, starting strong with the first song, “Big Thingz,” being about her dad.  “I wanted to start off with that because it’s kind of the beginning of where I started to the end of where I’m at now.”

Many of Weirdgirlmarie’s songs center around also ensuring that women know their worth after ending a rough relationship, particularly “No One Do It Like I Do.” “At the end of the day, you have to love yourself more than you love anybody else in this world and you have to stop suscepting to the patriarchy or what everyone around you thinks,” she said.

Weirdgirlmarie is very particular when it comes to songwriting, making sure to only focus on life experiences she’s personally had. Writing what you know is extremely important to Weirdgirlmarie, as she describes music to be her therapy.

Weirdgirlmarie speaks her thoughts through her music, and is transparent that instead of making statements, she prefers to put her thoughts into her art. She doesn’t expose her private life, but isn’t afraid to sub someone who does her wrong.

Weirdgirlmarie’s song “Locked + Loaded” touches on this post crashout phase when it comes to people. “I’m a D1 crashout I swear to god, I’m a D1 crashout and you can put that in the article I don’t give a fu**!” Weirdgirlmarie said. “I’m so transparent about it I don’t care. I’m the type of person that you fu** with me? I’m going to fu** with you and I’m going to make sure you hurt after me. I’m your karma. I’m walking karma.”

Weirdgirlmarie’s goal is to make music that girls can find themselves in, and songs that people can find comfort in. “All I want as an artist is for people to relate to my music, and heal from that,” she said. “One day, if somebody ever says to me that my music saved their life, I’m good. I can die right there.”

Weirdgirlmarie’s next album, “Honestly Who Gives A Fuck” is going to follow her same pattern of not having a certain genre to follow. “It’s going to be like a playlist, it’s not going to be a one-genre thing, and I refuse to do that because I want it to sound like a radio station,” she said. The album will focus on the female perspective during a relationship, treating it like “an exposé on art and people and integrating that into each other.”

Weirdgirlmarie doesn’t just want to focus on being an artist, hoping to also gain a following as an influencer as well as keep up with the multi-mobile life.

Weirdgirlmarie is not an artist you want to miss, and neither is her next album drop. “Hold onto your panties and men hold onto your women,” she said. “Grab tissues, grab a lighter, and grab a joint. Bad bitches stay cute, and if they talk about you, make it ten times worse.”
